Yes free images for your project. As a designer, we are always searching for good photos to use in our projects. Let’s admit it - good images are hard to find at the best of times and good free images are even harder find.
I have compiled a list of sites and explained them below that I use to source my images for all my projects.
Let’s start with the obvious.
1. Flickr.
But we want free right? So we want creative commons. Not sure what creative commons is?
Creative commons is a type of licensing a photographer gives to his/her photos. There are different types of creative commons licensing and they are as defined by flikr
“
Attribution means:
You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your copyrighted work - and derivative works based upon it - but only if they give you credit.
Noncommercial means:
You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your work - and derivative works based upon it - but for noncommercial purposes only.
No Derivative Works means:
You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform only verbatim copies of your work, not derivative works based upon it.
Share Alike means:
You allow others to distribute derivative works only under a license identical to the license that governs your work. “
Ok we now know what creative commons is and that flickr offers these types of photos but you’re probably wondering how to get them, easily….
BlueMoutains.net made this very easy for us. Simply visit: http://flickrcc.bluemountains.net/ put in the term you would like to search for. If you are planning on editing the image or use it for commercial purposes, make sure to check the appropriate box before searching.
2. Morgue File
Visit http://www.morguefile.com/ it contains high resolution free photos for both personal and commercial use. It is not required by is appreciated if you credit the photographer.
3. Yotophoto.com
Yotophoto.com is a website that acts like a search engine, it actually indexes creative commons licensed photos from various sources.
I hope this list helps you to find more images for your projects and I know they have helped me.
